How to Choose a Commercial Power Washer (Buying Guide)

A commercial pressure washer should be challenging, durable, and reliable. The engine type determines how powerful it can get- a strong motor comes standard on high-grade machines with pumps & components better than what you would find in most residential pressure washers.

Uses of a Commercial Pressure Washer

A commercial pressure washer is an integral part of any company that makes their living outside. It can be used for cleaning large areas quickly and effectively, such as industrial facilities or exterior buildings in addition to parking lots!

Commercial units also can clean ships well sidewalks, entrances & exit sports fields like tennis courts with ease.

PSI

With the growing popularity of pressure washing, many people are unfamiliar with PSI. The acronym stands for pounds per square inch, and it’s a measurement that relates to how hard water is when striking against your surface; in other words-the force, you feel from each shot!

This low-cost commercial-grade machine will likely do just fine for smaller tasks such as stripping surfaces or removing dirt buildup on patios up close. But if tough jobs need tackling (like industrial cleanups), then expect higher settings like 2000+, which might require special tools not included on most home machines at all.

Power: Gas or Electric Powered?

An electric pressure washer not only requires less maintenance, but you can use it wherever there’s a power outlet! It may be difficult at times because the location of these things and being close makes me work harder than necessary on certain projects-but when connected by electricity? No problem.

The gas-powered version has its benefits too: mobile so always have freedom while working outside. However, this means keeping track of two different sources if we want our tasks done quickly without having to go back inside every few minutes. But hey, what are some perks?!

Pumps

Direct-drive pump – Direct-drive pumps are the most efficient type in boats, but they also come at a cost. Direct drive means that instead of using belts or gears to connect it with engine speed and rotation frequency (like other types).

This type has its shaft, which connects directly from one side – meaning there’s no slippage because you’re now relying solely on direct contact between parts rather than indirect connections through sliding joints/gearing systems, etc.

The downside is how close these babies sit relative to hot engines; both factors cause increased running temperatures due to their proximity near heat sources like exhaust pipes which can quickly raise temps over 100°F when under heavy load.

Belt Drive Pump – A belt drive pump is connected via a belt(s) and pulleys to the engine’s (or motor’s) rotational speed. This system allows for it to turn at 1/3 as fast, which means that belts will provide extra power when you need more force or pressure than what can be produced by direct-drive motors at higher RPM ranges. For example, during routine cleaning operations where constant full speed output needs are not present!

The added parts increase maintenance requirements, though, so make sure this part of your decision-making process beforehand if possible because there could end up being pros & cons on both sides depending on how things work out in practice.

Top Pump Brands

The top 5 Pump Brands are CAT, AR (Annovi Reverberi), Comet General Pump, and AAA. It’s surprising to see that these five brands account for over 90% of all pumps in use today!

Hot Water or Cold Water?

The best way to get clean is with hot water. It “excites” all of that dirt and grime, making it easy for you! Soap does most of the work by grabbing those nasty particles, so they don’t sit on top or drift around unwantedly – yuck!

The combination of exciting them (and then pulling) will leave your surface sparkling clear in no time at all.

Thanks to pressure washers, effortlessly getting rid of pesky specks has never been easier. Because this type of machine generates higher pressures than cold-water models do; It costs about $1k more upfront but saves energy during use since we don’t have to wait around for the water to warm up!

If you don’t need hot water, it’s probably best to stick with cold-water pressure washers; they’ll be more affordable since prices will drop significantly in my experience.

I’ve heard that regular tap water is fine. Still, I opt out of using this way if possible because there are some conditions where the water becomes too dirty – and I’m not talking about mud, but using tap water on concrete and asphalt seems to cause severe damage.

Water Flow Rate (GPM)

The flow rate of these units will affect how quickly your job gets done; it’s calculated in gallons per minute (GPM). The average unit has about 2 to 3 GPM, but if you’re looking for one that can work more efficiently, try an average of 5 GPM.

Hose and Nozzle

Commercial pressure washers are often more powerful than home versions, which means they need more robust hoses. A longer hose will also give you greater freedom when completing tasks with these larger machines and come equipped with quick-connect nozzles that allow for customizing the angle or flow rate to fit each job at hand!

Weight

When shopping for a commercial pressure washer, think about the weight on your mind. If you’re going to be using it daily and don’t have enough muscle or arthritis in your hands, then consider investing in one that is lighter-duty than what’s perfect if this will sit around collecting dust from time to time.

Tires

Whether you’re performing a sizeable professional cleaning task or need to clear some small weeds in your front lawn, the terrain can at times hinder performance and mobility.

To combat this aspect of commercial pressure washing tools, most contain pneumatic tires that offer stability when on uneven ground and heavyweight capacity for those who use their devices heavily. However, 16 inches is typically considered optimal due to an increased traction surface area compared with smaller models.

Another good choice would be a “never-flat” type rubber compound that provides strength balance even if heavier machines like trucks and buses use it.

Cost

You know that feeling when you’re out running errands, and an idea pops into your head? Well, imagine what it would feel like if one little thought led to another, and before long, there was no going back.

That’s how this story ends for me because as soon as I read about the power difference between gas vs. electric-powered commercial pressure washing machines–I knew which one was perfect!

The price range will depend primarily on what kind of model you want, from around $250 up to just under 500 dollars (or more!) depending upon size/power requirements. Then again, there are cheaper options too.

Different Uses of The Commercial Pressure Washer

  • Sports courts
  • Industrial facilities
  • Ships
  • Building surrounds
  • City sidewalks
  • Buildings
  • Malls
  • Buildings
  • Parking garages
  • Backyard cleaning
  • Boats and cars
  • Malls

Expert Tip

Commercial pressure washing can be a time-consuming and laborious task, but you’ll find that it’s much more manageable with the right equipment. To get optimal results when using your commercial washer, make sure to utilize hot water and detergent so all grime will come off quickly!

Did you know?

Inventor Frank Ofeldt created the first steam pressure washer in America back in 1927, but it wasn’t until 1950 that Alfred Karcher came up with hot water high-pressure cleaners.

Do You Live In California?

If you live in California, the CARB regulations have set standards on Small Off-Road Engines (SORE). These emissions are reduced by 40% – 80%. It’s essential to make sure your machine will pass these new standards before starting work to avoid any problems down the line.

Safety Tips for Commercial Pressure Washer

  • Before spraying an electrical outlet, check for damage on any electrical cords, and be extra cautious while using an electric pressure washer.
  • Choose the Correct Nozzle
  • Avoid Ladders and Working at High Heights
  • It’s not a good idea to use a gas-powered pressure washer in an enclosed space.
  • Wear safety glasses or goggles

Final Thoughts

So, what’s the best commercial pressure washer for you? Hopefully, our buyer’s guide and reviews have helped you narrow it down. Also, consider your needs and budget when deciding; a good machine doesn’t have to be expensive.

And finally, don’t forget that proper usage and maintenance are vital to getting the most out of your pressure washer. Thanks for reading!

FAQs

What are commercial pressure washers used for?

Commercial pressure washers are the perfect solution for any job that needs a lot of cleaning power, be it an airport or factory.

A commercial-grade machine with high PSI and GPM can tackle even heavy-duty work like motor car repair shops or significant offices in large buildings where there’s no other way around this task on time without risking human life!

How important is the pump on a heavy-duty pressure washer?

pump is the part of a pressure washer that creates and sends water through pipes. Commercial power-washer pumps need to be robust to work smoothly, but some operational capability depends on this vital machine.

How much does a commercial power washer weigh?

Commercial power washers are usually run by gas because it generates heavy pressure, and the machines themselves can weigh 80-100 pounds. As a result, it becomes difficult for most people to carry one around when they need a large area cleaned too!

To solve this problem, many have started using long hoses that cover as much ground at once while they work (a practice I would not recommend).

Should I get hot water or cold water?

If you want to clean oil, grease, and sticky dirt without damaging the surface of your vehicle, then hot water is better for you. The heat from the wash, and its force combined, can remove these types of stains far easier than cold water pressure washers because they lack enough power in comparison.

However, maintaining one takes more effort than a regular machine mainly due to their cost effectiveness not being there when compared side by side with other options available in today’s market. That also makes them less desirable overall since most users would instead buy something cheaper if possible so long as it gets everything done quickly while still doing an excellent job at what needs done without any fuss or bother!

How much do commercial pressure washers cost?

The prices of pressure washers vary depending on the type and size. For example, you can purchase a small, portable model for $300, while some customized machines cost more than two thousand dollars!

Can I use my commercial pressure washing machine indoors?

Commercial pressure washers are large, powerful machines that generate high amounts of force. The risk for accidents indoors is considerable because these devices can cause damage on soft surfaces like indoor furniture and flooring, which might lead to injury or worse if misused with favorable conditions (i.e., no children around).

We recommend you use your commercial Pressure Washer at home in designated areas only!

Can commercial pressure damage paint coating on metal and wooden surfaces?

Don’t use a commercial pressure washer to remove old paint from surfaces like wood and metal because it can damage the new finish. Use one of these machines on softer materials, such as siding or brickwork instead!

How do I store my gasoline-powered commercial pressure washer?

If you want to store your gas pressure washer for an extended period, be sure that the components are disconnected first. Then, please turn off the fuel supply and use a stabilizer or winterize it with other necessary chemicals!

What Is The Best Commercial Pressure Washer?

The Simpson Cleaning ALH 3425 is an excellent choice when it comes to commercial cleaning. This powerful and high-quality machine can tackle any job day after day with ease. Because of its ample power needed for larger jobs or those that are heavily greasy plants equipment like fences and yards where you need deep scrubbing abilities before they’re clean!

If looking for something more versatile,” we recommend getting one of our heated water pressure washers, which will provide excellent results on most surfaces despite their size limitations.
